Welcome to the first week of the NSX REGISTRY and thanks for being part of the first real use test. As the site gets more users and we have more feedback from everyone I'm confidant that we will be able to make the website ever more useful. We will update the site code every week, so we welcome ALL feedback on errors, crashes, things looking funny, places that are confusing to use, etc etc.
This internal e-mail list will only be used to send out NSX REGISTRY site updates and a "thank you" to those that make suggestions. (all of those will get a private response as to how we handled it as well) Perhaps some of the posted bug fixes & code modifications below will make you think of other things to do? Pls let us know.
We are testing the site in IE6+ and Firebird. I did get an error report from someone using Netscape 7.1 that didn't actually complete the sign up process. Please remember to let us know what you are using if something displays oddly or does not work for you, and PLEASE upgrade to the newer browser versions, we do not look back with nostalgia on anything in particular except our youthful indiscretions.
We removed the "story" field from the list of required entries, so that will no longer throw an error if left blank The stories are fun though so if you have time - blog away, or come back later and tell us your life story.
For some reason the e-mail address field was NOT on the required list - now it is. Only one account left that field blank though (phew) but we can't contact them now with this newsletter - bummer.
The VIN decoder and the VIN database section was originally set up to accept numbers based on the information in the NSX Prime section on VIN numbers. This information did not take into account numbers from outside the USA, so those of you from foreign lands got "U be Bad" errors. We fixed that (so far) and you can now enter VINs from outside the USA in the database - the VIN "decoder" supplied by Ojas has not been updated yet.
The default error message has been made less "Dali-Like".
Avatars: We thought originally that you all would be uploading avatars from your own computers when you uploaded pix of the cars etc. and we did not have an provision for using avatars stored on other computers. (like your "Prime" avatar for instance) We fixed that so that you can do that, and we are happy to store the avatar on our server too. (loads faster that way you know ;-)
Just to be clear - The NSX REGISTRY (TNR) and NSX PRIME (NP) do not share any code/databases/servers etc. There are links between the two sites on the TNR menu bar but if you want it on TNR, then please put it there - that makes it more simple for everyone.
Help: "Context sensitive" as in "page specific" help will be available soon on each page. So far that is just on the "add an avatar" page and on the "add a car" page. It will soon be available on all pages.
If the part that you are trying to add to your car in the "MOD" section is not listed there yet, do not despair - I will not hold it against you if it is not a Dali part <G> just send it in and we will add it to the list of selectable parts. These listings will get updated as fast as possible, although we will try and resolve any code issues first.
In order to minimize editing things later, before you fill in the blanks or select the default in a drop down box - look and see if there is a entry that more closely resembles you! :-)
We are not allowing database entires to be user "deleteable" at this time. This might change as we get a handle on the code.
